Connexion Bizarre was updated on 2008-01-21 with a new webcast, new reviews, new recommended events and links. In addition, this week we continue a give-away competition courtesy of Artoffact Records (see below for details).

Reviewed this week were Manufactura "In the Company of Wolves", Andrew Chalk "Time of Hayfield", Bitter:Sweet "The Remix Game", Indu Mezu "Chdetoria", Objekt4 "Shades Of Night", Dimension Zero "Scythe".
This week's webcast features "The Violence Inside You" with music selection by :JW: and "Chronicle 20080121" with music selection by M.

Individual Totem "WWW EP" giveaway

We have 4 copies of the limited-edition "WWW", the much-delayed EP release by electro-industrial legends Individual Totem to give away, courtesy of Artoffact Records label.
Delayed for years, this EP celebrates the return of Individual Totem after nearly 7 years of silence and heralded another release by this German duo on the Canadian label Artoffact, a full-length album titled "Mothfly", also released on Artoffact.
To be elegible to win a copy of this release we ask you to send us a list of all the full-length albums released by Individual Totem (extra points if you know on what label was supposed to release "WWW" back in 2001).
Mail us the answer at info[at]connexionbizarre[dot]net with your full name and street address. The deadline for this giveaway is February 3, 2008 and winners will be selected from the correct entries at random on that day.
Not valid for current Connexion Bizarre staff members.

Reviews

Manufactura - 'In the Company of Wolves'

Manufactura - In the Company of Wolves
It would seem that Chris Ianuzzi sought to supplement his signature dry and minimalist sound with explicit club-friendly beats, an approach whose efficacy can be questioned, even more so in the context of a full-length album.

Andrew Chalk - 'Time Of Hayfield'

Andrew Chalk - Time Of Hayfield
The biggest departure from Chalk's previous solo material on "Time of Hayfield" is the fact that instead of the album just consisting of a few long songs, we have individually titled tracks, the longest being in the 14-minute range and the shortest not breaking the five-minute mark.

Bitter:Sweet - 'The Remix Game'

Bitter:Sweet - The Remix Game
Those of us that believed the trip-hop genre had nearly ceased to exist will find this release a bittersweet reminder of that all but bygone era. This is not to say the artists are simply recycling the sounds of the early 1990s.

Indu Mezu - 'Chdetoria'

Indu Mezu - Chdetoria
Whether you term Indu Mezu industrial, experimental, glitch or ambient, you'll be somewhat off the mark: on "Chdetoria," labels are transcended and what is left is something more akin to an autobiographical soundtrack, constantly changing and evolving, as does the listener.

Objekt4 - 'Shades Of Night'

Objekt4 - Shades Of Night
Skilfully composed using essentially processed field recordings and the odd instrumental element (a guitar chord here, a bell there), "Shades Of Night" comes across as the dark side of a meditation tape or, perhaps, even as an aural opiate.

Dimension Zero - 'Scythe'

Dimension Zero - Scythe
While the CD would most likely appeal to a fan of electronic rock, it's time to call a spade a spade and admit that if you're looking for your standard EBM fare, "Scythe" probably isn't going to suit your tastes.
